How to View Telegram Favorites by Chat and Organize Them with Tags

Introduction to the “View by Chat,” “Pin,” and “Premium” tabs in Saved Messages: When to group by source, when to mark processing status, and how to avoid turning favorites into a hard-to-maintain categorization system.

Saved Messages arranged by time are very suitable for finding “what I just saved”, but not suitable for answering “what information have I saved from this channel”. The View as Chats added by Telegram to Saved Messages is to regroup a long-term thread by its original source; the Premium label solves another thing: whether this collection is now pending, verified, or retained for a long time.

Source and status are two different dimensions. Mix them into a bunch of homemade keywords, and the sorting work will quickly take more time than the search itself.

What is the grouping of “view by chat”?

When you forward a message from a channel, group or private chat to Saved Messages, Telegram may retain the original chat relationship. View as Chats displays these collections in a chat list-like structure: select a source and you’ll see content saved from there. Notes you send directly to yourself will also have corresponding entries.

It is suitable for the following situations:

  • Remember which channel the material comes from, but forget the title;
  • Want to review content you have saved over a long period of time from a research source;
  • The same keyword has different meanings in different channels;
  • Need to clean up a source that is no longer of interest.

This view will not scan the entire history of the original chat, nor will it automatically include previously viewed but unsaved messages. It only rearranges content that is already in your Saved Messages and whose source is recognized.

How to open the chat view

Open Saved Messages first, then look at the top name, profile page or more menu to look for entries such as “View as Chats” and “View as Chats”. The button locations on Telegram Desktop, Android, and iOS may be different, and older versions may not have the same interface.

After switching, first verify with a channel where you frequently repost content. Open the source card and check whether recent collections appear in it; then switch back to normal view to confirm that the same message is still in the overall timeline. The two views are just different presentations, not two sets of data.

If a message is not attributed to the expected source, common reasons include: the text was copied instead of forwarded; the file was re-uploaded by you; the original chat was restricted from saving content; the source relationship changed due to the message or permission status. Do not repeatedly forward sensitive content in order to repair the group. If necessary, just add a text description to the existing collection.

Tags are more suitable for marking status, not suitable for copying directory trees

Telegram Premium allows you to add multiple emoticon reactions to favorite messages and name these reactions as tags; they can then be filtered by tags. Official capabilities also support viewing tag lists and searching collections by reaction.

The designs that are easiest to stick to usually have only a small number of states:

Tag examples Meaning When to remove
To be read Need to read in full After reading and deciding whether to stay
To-do Need to register, reply or process After the action is completed
Verification Facts, prices or sources to be confirmed After finding first-hand evidence
Reserved Confirmed long-term value Optional removal after migration to official archives

It is not recommended to create dozens of hashtags at the same time. Topic names change frequently, and the same message may span multiple topics; source view and text search can already solve most topic positioning. When there are too many tags, you will forget whether you used “job”, “job search” or “career”.

Non-Premium users don’t have to look for client-side emulation tags of unknown origin. You can use a small number of fixed prefixes in the save description, such as “To-do:” “Verification:”, to search directly later; or pin a current list to the top.

Top is suitable for indexing, not suitable for being filled with important messages

Saved Messages support pinning. The most useful pinned content is not the ten “very important” retweets, but an index that points to the current work: this week’s to-dos, topic words being researched, frequently used file entries, or cleaning rules.

For example, you can pin this one to the top:

Current project: Recruitment channel research Search term: remote-q3 Status labels: To be read / Verified / Cited Export to team library when finished

This index lets future you know what naming was used at that time. Remove the pin after the project is over to avoid the “current” list from accumulating year by year.

A set of sources × status sorting process

Let’s say you save material from five news channels every day. Quickly forward in the morning without forcing yourself to categorize immediately; open the chat view in the afternoon and start reviewing from the most important channel; mark “To Do” for items that require action, and “Verify” for messages that have not yet been confirmed; delete the status label after completion, and move long-term materials to formal notes or evidence libraries.

There is no need to convert the five channels into five labels because the source view already provides grouping. Tags only express what stage the content is currently at. When searching for an event in the future, enter the event name first; when you want to check unprocessed content, filter “Verify” again.

For team work, also note that Saved Messages is a personal space. Personal tags and pinning will not become a shared process. When division of labor, permissions, review, and version records among multiple people are required, the final entry should be migrated to the team tool, and the original Telegram message link and verification time should be retained.

Deletion, source changes and privacy

Clearing the favorite messages in the source view will change the content of your Saved Messages; confirm before operation whether to only remove a certain favorite or affect the messages in the original chat. The wording of the interface will change depending on the identity of the sender and the type of message. Do not continuously click on the unread confirmation box.

After the original channel is renamed, made private, or messages are deleted, some content may still be displayed in the old collection, but the ability to return to the source will change. Sensitive content should not be retained indefinitely just because it “exists in a private collection.” Delete expired personal information based on actual use and protect accounts and devices.

FAQ

Why can’t I see the tag feature?

The Saved Messages tab is a Telegram Premium capability and requires a newer official client. Update the client first and confirm the subscription status; non-Premium can use a fixed text prefix instead.

Can I search by channel name when viewing by chat?

The official capability supports collection of conversation lists and corresponding searches, but the interface presentation of different clients may be different. If there is no obvious entry, search Saved Messages for the source name, username, or description you left when saving.

Will the tag be seen by others?

Saved Messages and the personal arrangements within them belong to your account view, and the original channel will not be notified just because a message is tagged. However, anyone with access to your Telegram account or unlocked device may be able to see it.
