How to Search Telegram Channel Comments: Locating Related Discussion Groups, Reply Threads, and Original Posts

Telegram channel comments are not part of regular broadcast posts. After comments are enabled on a channel, each post can correspond to a reply thread, and comments will also enter the discussion group associated with the channel. To search for comments, you should first go into the comment thread or associated discussion group of a specific post, rather than just searching in the broadcast channel history.

This distinction can explain a common problem: you have clearly seen a comment under a certain channel post, but you cannot search it in the channel because the search scope is still limited to broadcast messages.

What is the relationship between channel posts, comment threads and discussion groups?

Telegram Channels FAQ explains that channels can be associated with discussion groups, and subscribers will see a comment button under the post; comments have their own thread and enter the discussion group at the same time.

Enter comments from channel posts

1. Open the target channel and specific post.
2. Find the number of comments, replies, or equivalent entries.
3. After opening, the confirmation page is still associated with the original channel post, instead of jumping to irrelevant group messages.
4. View replies and times in the comment thread.
5. Keep the original post and comment context while saving the evidence.

Button names and locations may change depending on the client version. Some channels do not have a comment entrance. This may be because they are not associated with the discussion group, the administrator has turned off comments, the specific post settings are different, or the current account does not have the corresponding access rights.

How to find the comment keyword if it is already known

Enter the thread from the original post first

If you know which channel post a comment belongs to, entering the comment from that post is the minimum scope. Enter a unique word, name, link, or number from the comment using the search or browse methods currently available in the thread.

If you don’t know the original post, please link to the discussion group

Open the channel information and confirm whether the associated discussion group or discussion entrance is displayed. After entering the discussion group, use the search within the group and narrow it down by combining keywords, sender, and date.

After the search result is hit, check whether it belongs to an automatically forwarded channel post and its reply thread. There may also be independent chats in the group, and not all messages are channel comments.

Only remember the commenter

Group searches may offer sender filtering, but anonymous admins, speaking as a channel, name changes, and account permissions will affect results. Do not anonymize real people based on display names, and do not assume that @username mentions are equivalent to actual messages sent by that user.

How to return the original channel post from a comment

Comment context usually retains the associated channel post or returns to the original post entry. Observe the channel name, post preview and time before clicking; after returning, confirm that the message link and comment link of the broadcast post are not the same object.

It is recommended to save when recording:

• Original channel name and @username;
• Original post sending time and message link;
• The commenter’s current visible identity;
• Comment time, text and thread context;
• Check date;
• Whether the comment or original post is currently still accessible.

Saving just a screenshot of a comment will lose what it is responding to. Only the link to the original post is saved and the specific comment cannot be located.

Why can’t I find comments in the channel?

A common cause is a scope error: a broadcast channel search only looks at channel posts, and comments are in the associated discussion context. Other reasons include:

1. The comment has been deleted or the thread has been closed;
2. The discussion group becomes private and the current account does not have access rights;
3. Keywords only exist inside pictures, voices or files;
4. The commenter changes his name or speaks as a channel;
5. The search date and time zone are inconsistent;
6. The original post is deleted and the associated context changes;
7. The client does not display a complete thread search at the current entry.

First find a comment that is now visible, copy the unique words and search separately in the comment thread and discussion group to establish minimum recurrence.

Public channel does not mean that all comments are public

Public channels can be associated with discussion groups that are public or have independent access conditions. Being able to browse broadcast posts does not automatically guarantee that you can view all comment history. Private message links also require the person who opens them to have corresponding access rights.

Do not bypass discussion group permissions through third-party caches, leaked links, or scrapers. Comments often include individual usernames and opinions, and external preservation and analysis involve additional privacy and content rights.

Which tasks is suitable for comment search?

• Find clarifications and FAQs under the official post;
• Check whether the administrator has added information in the comments;
• Tracking links, bug feedback or event Q&A;
• Return to the original post that a comment responds to;
• Distinguish between official channel broadcast and user discussion.

It is not suitable for proving public opinion by the number of comments, nor is it suitable for building personal portraits across threads. Highly popular posts may have robot, duplication, and deletion bias.

Three complete review search processes

Find the administrator under the official announcement to add

First find the original announcement on the broadcast channel, enter the comment thread, and then search for words such as “update,” “clarification,” and “amendment.” After hitting, confirm whether the speaker is an administrator, channel identity or ordinary member; the same display name is not enough to prove identity. Finally, go back to the original post to check whether the text has been edited, and record the official broadcast and supplementary comments separately.

Find bug feedback after product release

Search the associated discussion group using version number, error code, device or feature name. Separate independent group chats from specific post replies, and then cluster them by sending time. The number of comments is not representative of the number of affected users, as repeated follow-ups from the same person, bot messages, and deleted replies can cause bias.

Find the Q&A under the event post

Enter the thread from the original event post and search for location, age, language, cost or deadline. Comment answers may be provided by ordinary members, and will be subject to official updates from the official website of the organizer or the administrator. When it comes to addresses and personal contact information, do not bulk copy the comment area information to the public form.

How to interpret comments after the original post has been edited?

Comments reflect the version as it was sent or seen by the commenter, and the original post may have been subsequently edited. If the comment content conflicts with the current text, you should record the current status of the original post, the time of the comment, the administrator’s follow-up instructions, and your verification date. Do not assume that the commenter has seen the current text.

Screenshots often do not prove the pre-edited version. Unless there is a verifiable historical record, the accurate statement should be “the comment was made at a time in response to a context that cannot currently be fully restored” rather than reconstructing a non-existent original text.

Comment link, message link and access rights

Original posts, replies in comment threads, and group messages may have different link structures. Verify with a test account with the same access rights before sharing; being visible to a public channel does not mean that its discussion group or all comment links are open to everyone.

When saving research records, separate original post links and comment links, and add channels, discussion groups, comment time and relationship descriptions. Leave only one URL, and it will be difficult to tell later whether it points to broadcast content or user replies.

Privacy and Security Boundaries for Comment Search

Personal user names, contact information, location, job experience and opinions are more likely to appear in the comment area. Being searchable does not mean that personal portraits can be created, publicly redistributed, or submitted to external systems for long-term analysis. Save only the fields needed to complete the task, de-identify if necessary, and set a deletion period.

Dating and social channels, in particular, should not mass-screen individuals based on sensitive information such as age, address, financial status, etc. Resumes and contact information in recruitment comments should also not be collected without permission. Financial reviews may contain fake customer service and private message inducements. Any account requesting a verification code, wallet authorization or transfer must be re-verified through official channels.

How to judge the quality of comment results

Four types of roles can be marked for each hit: official broadcast of the channel, verifiable administrator supplement, ordinary member experience, and statement that the identity cannot be confirmed. Then record whether there is a primary link, whether it has been subsequently corrected, and whether it is a repeated repost.

This classification will not automatically determine whether it is true or false, but it can avoid turning a high-like comment into an official position. The number of interactions, expressions, and replies cannot replace identity and evidence.

Does the disappearance of the comment button mean that all comments have been deleted?

uncertain. It may be that the discussion group is disassociated, comments are closed, the current account permissions are changed, or the client entrance is different. It should be checked separately from the channel information and the original post.

Can I search all channel comments by commentator?

Discussion group search may provide sender conditions, but it can only cover the currently accessible range, and will also be affected by name changes, anonymous management, and channel identity speaking. Do not use the results to track individuals across groups.

Will in-channel Hashtag searches include comments?

Don’t include it by default. Broadcast channels and associated discussion groups are different search contexts; they should be verified in the original post and discussion group respectively.

Why doesn’t asktele return comments?

The current product supports broadcast-channel messages, not groups, supergroups, or linked discussion threads. This is a product-scope boundary rather than a problem with the search terms.
